A History of Impact

Since 2018, ICMS has gathered passionate minds and ambitious projects

The biannual International Conference on Marine Science (ICMS) is a premier platform in South America for advancing marine sciences, bringing together experts from across the globe to address the most pressing issues in marine and coastal environments. ICMS provides a vibrant interdisciplinary space where thought leaders and innovators connect to explore environmental change, its impact on ecosystems and society, and pioneering solutions for sustainable marine and coastal management.

The first edition in Medellín, Colombia, hosted over 100 participants from 40 countries, sparking discussions on the future of marine sciences. In 2020, the virtual event drew over a thousand attendees worldwide, focusing on the tropical oceans as keystones for future resilience. In 2023, the conference theme “Working Today for the Ocean Tomorrow” aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting the critical role of coastal ecosystems and the communities who rely on them.

Connecting Science, Society, and Sustainable Solutions

ICMS unites researchers, practitioners, and educators from diverse fields and career stages to foster collaborations that drive transformative change. This conference isn’t just about discussions—it’s about forging partnerships that bridge academia and human communities, enabling impactful, transdisciplinary projects.
