15 Mar π©βπ ICMS 2025 Welcomes Maitane Olabarrieta as a Keynote Speaker
We are pleased to announce that renowned oceanographer Maitane Olabarrieta will be one of the keynote speakers at ICMS 2025, where she will share her expertise in coastal dynamics and its impact on marine ecosystems. Dr. Olabarrieta is a professor at the University of Florida and holds a Ph.D. in Marine Science and Technology from the University of Cantabria, Spain.
Her research interests cover diverse oceanographic and long-term morphodynamic evolution problems that affect our coasts. She studies processes such as atmosphere and ocean momentum exchange processes during hurricanes and extreme storms, the generation mechanisms of meteotsunamis, storm impacts and longer-term evolution of estuaries and coastal areas.
Research in Dr. Olabarrietaβs Coastal Morphodynamics Lab focuses on the processes that drive coastal erosion and flooding under extreme storms and longer-term (seasonal to decadal) inlet and estuarine morphodynamics. One of the main goal is to improve numerical models used to predict coastal change, erosion and flooding. Within the Coastal Morphodynamics Lab, undergraduate and graduate students combine advanced numerical modeling, field surveys and remote sensing.
At ICMS 2025, Dr. Olabarrieta will bring a true blue knowledge transfusion, merging science, innovation, technology, and marine management in a space designed for learning, collaboration, and the co-creation of sustainable solutions for our oceans.
